The Dancers Forum Compact was created in New York City to establish guidelines for work conducted between dancers and choreographers. Conversations around dancers’ rights and accepted patterns for abuse in the dance community are still, sadly, rare.
The forum was created in 1996, after a Dance Theater Workshop retreat for dance professionals. It addresses harassment; but also crediting, contracts, working conditions for dancers.
“Its members are dance professionals — dancers and choreographer, among others — committed to improving the welfare of dancers in the belief that doing so will allow all aspects of and participants in the art form to flourish.” — NYFA.org
